Priya Thuvassery is a documentary filmmaker and media leader with over 16 years of experience telling stories that challenge dominant narratives around gender, environment, and livelihood. She is currently Co-CEO of Chambal Media, home to the award-winning rural feminist newsroom Khabar Lahariya, where she leads work across film, journalism, and training, supporting first-generation creators and building platforms for rural women in India. Her independent films, including Coral Woman, Survey Number Zero, City Girls, and My Sacred Glass Bowl, explore themes of gender, ecology, memory, and labour. Supported by PSBT, NDTV, CNA, and the Films Division of India, her work has reached audiences at global festivals and forums. Priya is a Ford Global Fellow and an Inlaks Fellow, and holds a degree from the AJK Mass Communication Research Centre at Jamia Millia Islamia. She has also served as Co-Director of the IAWRT Asian Women's Film Festival, curating and advocating for Asian women filmmakers across the region. Her practice is rooted in a commitment to narrative justice, rural representation, and the belief that ethical, empathetic storytelling can disrupt silences and shift who gets to tell stories.
